This is the Dahlia Anemone, Urticina felina which is very variable in colour and grows to 15cms diameter. (See following photograph to see a top view of this species) Animals [ Pagurus bernhardus (Linnaeus 1758)] were collected from rockpools at Hannafore Point, Looe, Cornwall, UK. Individuals were identified and sexed by morphological criteria (Lancaster, 1988). Only males were used in this study as gravid females demonstrate a reluctance to switch shells (Briffa et al., 2008).
